Grow cannabis in South Whittier, CA
South Whittier's weather almost never tells a plant to stop. A freezing night comes less than once a year on average, and from March 2 to November 20 the average night stays at 50°F or warmer. Nothing in that calendar caps how big a plant gets before it flowers.
So the limit here is not the weather. It is the space you grow in. How tall can a plant get in your tent, or behind your fence, before it turns into a problem?
Adults 21 and over: yes. Plant limit: 6 living plants per private residence, however many adults live there.
Locked space, not visible from a public place; cities and counties can set reasonable rules for indoor grows (but cannot ban them) and may ban outdoor grows; a landlord may prohibit growing on a rental. Source: Department of Cannabis Control; conditions: Prop 64 text as passed in 2016 (H&S Code 11362.2 and 11362.45). Local rules (landlords, HOAs, city codes) can add more; this is a summary, not legal advice.
Indoors, you decide when a photoperiod plant flowers: set the lamp to 12 hours on and 12 off and it begins. A mild garage or spare room tempts you to let veg run on. Resist it. Plants keep stretching through the first weeks of flower, often adding half their height or more, so make the switch while the plant is about half as tall as your space allows.
Height costs the most in August and September. The Fullerton airport station, 5.7 miles away, averages about 9 afternoons at 90°F in each of those months, and a tall plant holds its top buds in the hottest air, right under the lamp. Run the light period overnight, when August nights fall to about 66°F, and keep the canopy flat with topping, low branches bent outward and a trellis net.
Humidity sits in the middle range. Outdoor humidity averaged 64 to 67 percent from June through October in 2024. An untrained, bushy plant traps moist air in its center, so clear out the lower and inner growth before late flower, alongside any dehumidifier you run.
December lows average about 46°F. The overnight light schedule already covers the coldest hours, and a seedling mat helps young roots. January's 73 percent outdoor reading counts only in an unheated, damp room; a heated house runs drier.

The state cap is 6 living plants per private residence, however many adults live there, and the plants belong behind a lock, hidden from any public place. Local governments can set reasonable rules for indoor grows, though they cannot ban them, and they may ban outdoor grows. Unlike the city of Whittier next door, South Whittier is unincorporated, with no city government of its own, so look up the county's rules before you plant.
If yours is allowed outside, sow indoors from March 4 to 18 and move plants out on April 15 or later. A photoperiod plant set out then keeps growing through spring and early summer before it flowers, and that long run is what makes the hidden, locked space hard to keep: a plant that clears its enclosure can be seen. Plant out later or start from small clones, top early, and train branches sideways. Autoflowers usually stay smaller and keep their own clock; give them only about a week indoors before they go in the ground.
| Frost | Rare: less than 1 freezing night a year on average |

| Nights stay 50°F or warmer | Mar 2 to Nov 20 |
| Start seeds or clones indoors | Mar 4 to Mar 18 |
| Move plants outdoors | Apr 15 or later |
Much of South Whittier is closely built, and next door is near enough to hear a fan humming all night or catch a smell in September. No app can change that. What it can guard is the written side of your grow.
Canna GLAP locks the journal with encryption while it is still on your phone, so it uploads already sealed. Anyone who forced their way into our servers would come away with grow records they cannot read and nothing to decode them. What you learned about keeping six plants small is yours to keep.
What is encrypted: your plants, notes, photos, feed logs and harvests. What is not: account details (such as your email, name and plan), a grow name or town if you type one, your team, and your sensors' names. The full list: what a hacker would get.
Rarely. The Fullerton airport station averages 0.3 freezing nights a year, and the average night stays at 45°F or warmer in every month.
Keep them shorter than the locked space that hides them: plant out later, top early and train branches sideways. A plant set out on April 15 has many warm weeks to grow before it starts to flower.
State law sets the base: 6 living plants per residence, in a locked space not visible from a public place. South Whittier is unincorporated, with no city government, so the county's rules for indoor and outdoor grows are the ones to check.
