Grow cannabis in Poway, CA
In Poway, the summer problem is water in the air, not heat. Outdoor humidity averaged 71 percent in June 2024, 69 in July, and 67 in both August and September. Heat stays modest: about 21 afternoons a year reach 90°F.
That matters, because an air conditioner, the fix for heat, does little for damp. Which of the two is your grow room set up to fight?
Adults 21 and over: yes. Plant limit: 6 living plants per private residence, however many adults live there.
Locked space, not visible from a public place; cities and counties can set reasonable rules for indoor grows (but cannot ban them) and may ban outdoor grows; a landlord may prohibit growing on a rental. Source: Department of Cannabis Control; conditions: Prop 64 text as passed in 2016 (H&S Code 11362.2 and 11362.45). Local rules (landlords, HOAs, city codes) can add more; this is a summary, not legal advice.
The Rancho Bernardo station, 4.8 miles away at 690 feet, puts August afternoons at about 83°F and counts only about 3 to 6 hot afternoons in each month from July through September. An air conditioner that waits for heat runs on a handful of days, and it dries the air only while it runs. Outdoor humidity, meanwhile, averaged in the high 60s to low 70s from June through September, so in flower a dehumidifier sized for the space carries the load, with the air conditioner as a helper.
The heat that does come arrives late. August has the warmest afternoons on average, but September has the most hot days, about 6, and October still brings about 4. So a tent's hardest weeks can come in early fall. Run the lights at night from August into October, when nights average about 57 to 64°F, cool enough for intake air to help.
Winter is short and gentle. The average night dips below 45°F only from about December 12 to December 29, and the station averages less than one freezing night a year. Lamps through the coldest hours and a seedling mat for young plants are about all a garage tent near Old Poway Park needs in December. January's 74 percent outdoor humidity counts only in an unheated, damp room; heated air dries it out.

California's limit is 6 living plants per private residence, however many adults live there, in a locked space that is not visible from a public place, on a large lot as on a small one. Cities and counties can set reasonable rules for indoor grows (but not ban them) and may ban outdoor grows, so check what the local rules for your address allow before planting.
Where outdoor plants are allowed, photoperiod seeds go into pots indoors from March 4, no later than March 18, for setting out from April 15; autoflowers spend just a week or so inside. Frost is close to a non-issue. The finish is where the tradeoff shows: September brings the most hot afternoons and the damper air, while October averaged 60 percent humidity in 2024 with a few hot days left. A plant that ripens in mid to late October dodges the worst of both. Either way, space plants wide and keep each one open inside.
| Frost | Rare: less than 1 freezing night a year on average |

| Nights stay 50°F or warmer | Mar 30 to Nov 16 |
| Start seeds or clones indoors | Mar 4 to Mar 18 |
| Move plants outdoors | Apr 15 or later |
If you see your neighbors at the Poway Rodeo or the Summer Concerts in the Park, your grow does not need to come up. A semi-rural lot gives some distance, but encryption will not stop a smell on the breeze; what it guards is your record.
Every journal entry is encrypted by Canna GLAP on your phone before it uploads, and it opens only with your passphrase, which we never see. Thieves inside our servers would carry off grow records no one can read, and no key to change that. The dehumidifier routine that carried a plant through a damp June stays with you.
What is encrypted: your plants, notes, photos, feed logs and harvests. What is not: account details (such as your email, name and plan), a grow name or town if you type one, your team, and your sensors' names. The full list: what a hacker would get.
Not in summer or early fall. Outdoor air ran humid from June through September in 2024, so a flowering tent usually needs one; October, at 60 percent, eased off but did not turn dry.
Warm more than hot. August, the month with the warmest afternoons, averages about 83°F, with nights near 64°F, and the few very hot days come mostly from August to October.
From April 15 where local rules allow it, in a locked space out of public view. Average nights reach 50°F from March 30, so plants go out into nights that are already mild.
